Obama Backers in Florida Intend to Keep Defending Health Care Law

With federal Judge Roger Vinson's ruling last week that the federal law backed by President Barack Obama was unconstitutional, the presidents supporters in the Sunshine State struck back on Tuesday vowing to continue the fight.

Ashley Walker, the state director of Obama-affiliated group Organizing for America, took aim at Vinsons ruling, calling it an unprecedented display of judicial activism." Walker said that her group would continue to be active, launching a campaign of sending letters to newspaper editors, media events, e-mail campaigns, phone banks and other events.

U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a rising star for Democrats, came out swinging at the decision and the Republicans who are calling for repeal of the law.

This decision was far outside the mainstream of judicial reasoning, insisted Wasserman Schultz, pointing to a decision where the law was sustained. The Florida decision is a clear case of judicial overreach.

Wasserman Schultz called Republican efforts in Congress to repeal the law unacceptable, arguing that millions of Floridians would be impacted. She called out Gov. Rick Scott for returning monies to the federal government last week.

If the Affordable Care Act (fails), Florida will lose and lose big, added Wasserman Schultz who said jobs are the biggest priority at this time.
