NSA Creates Tumblr Blog -- So Americans Can Follow it Back
The National Security Agency came under fire after reports surfaced that it had been snooping on the phone calls of millions of ordinary Americans as well as millions of emails. But now, Americans have the opportunity to follow the NSA back -- if only on Tumblr.
Yesterday, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence started a Tumblr blog about the work of the NSA, calledIC On The Record. The blog was created partially in response to President Barack Obama's decision to defend the NSA's surveillance practices as well as to create a "hub for further transparency." The blog includes declassified documents, interviews, testimony, official statements and fact sheets and represents 17 different intelligence agencies, including the NSA, the CIA, the FBI and military intelligence units.
Some have complained that the blog's documents lack substance and transparency, due to the fact that they have been heavily redacted prior to being shared.
Tumblr is well-known among 20-somethings as a platform for sharing GIFs and other photographs and videos of pop culture, but the website is home to over 30 U.S. government blogs, including the official blog of the U.S. government as well as the White House and the IRS.
