No Comment from David Rivera on Immigration Law Draws Fire from Joe Garcia
A piece in The Hill this weekend on Florida Republicans and their attempts to bring an Arizona-style law on immigration to the Sunshine State reported that Rep. David Rivera, R-Miami, the leading Republican candidate in the race for the seat currently held by U.S. Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart is mum on the proposal.
This prompted a sharp response from Joe Garcia, the leading Democrat in the race.
"During these tough economic times, our families deserve honesty from their leaders, not political games from career politicians, said Garcia in a statement. It is deeply troubling to see that as Bill McCollum is trying to bring an Arizona-style immigration law to Florida, David Rivera says he isn't ready to comment on where he stands on yet another issue.
"There will be a clear difference on the issue of integrity in this race, added Garcia. The people will always know where I stand on the issues that affect our families. And while I may not always agree with Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen and Rep. Diaz-Balart, I admire their clarity on this issue and I look forward to reaching across the aisle and working with them on immigration reform if given the honor to serve our community in Congress."
