NFL Draft Points to Miami Hurricanes as Best 6-Loss Team in the Country
Four months after the University of Miami fired its coach and ended a dismal 6-loss season, the NFL is snapping up Hurricane players.
Former Miami linebacker Colin McCarthy became the sixth Cane taken in the 2011 NFL Draft Saturday -- putting the "U" into a tie with LSU for having the most players selected.
McCarthy, picked by the Tennessee Titans as the 109th overall selection, followed teammates who were selected Friday in either the second or third rounds.
OL Orlando Franklin (2nd round to Denver) was the first Cane taken this year, then came DB Brandon Harris (2nd round to Houston), WR Leonard Hankerson (3rd round to Washington), DB DeMarcus Van Dyke (81st to Oakland) and DL Allen Bailey (89th to Kansas City).
Though Miami's 14-year run of first-round draft picks was snapped three years ago, the Canes remain a perennial source of top NFL talent. The U set a record last year when 11 former Canes played in the 2010 Pro Bowl.
