Newt Gingrich's Team Tries to Close the Deal in Florida
The team behind former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich made their final case to voters in the Sunshine State on Tuesday, the day of the Florida Republican presidential primary.
The race in Florida has been a roller coaster, Michael Krull, Gingrichs campaign manager, wrote to supporters on Tuesday. Millions of dollars of false and misleading personal attack ads from Mitt Romney and his millionaire friends have made this race closer than anyone expected, and in fact many in the media were again quick to write this campaign off as dead! But a funny thing happened on the way to the Mitt Romney coronation: conservatives from all across the country have made the choice to publicly stand with Newt and his campaign of bold solutions and strong leadership!
Over the last several days, conservative leaders Fred Thompson and Herman Cain have enthusiastically endorsed this campaign, and Sarah Palin once again urged voters to shake up the establishment and annoy a liberal by voting for Newt! added Krull. As the conservatives have continued to stand with this campaign, we've seen the polls close to within single digits, with the latest Insider Advantage poll putting Romney's lead at just 5 points -- barely outside the margin of error!
Almost every other poll besides Insider Advantage -- which has ties to longtime Gingrich operative Matt Towery -- has Romney ahead of the former congressional leader by larger margins in Florida.
