Newt Gingrich Working on a Second 'Contract With America'

Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich will release his second "Contract With America" next Thursday in Des Moines, Iowa.

"It's going to be bigger, deeper and more profound," than the "Contract With America" he helped author in 1994, Gingrich said during Thursday night's debate at the Orange County Convention Center.

The 1994 contract called for shrinking the size of government, promoted lower taxes and greater entrepreneurial activity, and advocated tort and welfare reforms.

Gingrich, who became House speaker after the contract helped Republicans win the majority in the House of Representatives for the first time in 40 years. He said the 21st century contract will be more comprehensive than the 1994 version.

"This approach is going to be more fundamental and more profound and it's going to rely on citizenship and citizens being with me," Gingrich said.

He added that the contract will grow because supporters are able to contribute to the proposals at Newt.org.
