New Poll Finds Allen West Beating Lois Frankel by 15 Points

National Democrats have made freshman Republican U.S. Rep. Allen West one of their top targets, but a new poll shows West with a 15-point lead over a top Democratic challenger.

The poll from Viewpoint Florida found West beating West Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel 53 percent to 38 percent. The poll also found that West was seen as more favorable than Frankel. While West was seen as favorable by 50 percent and unfavorable by 36 percent of those surveyed, Frankel was upside down with 28 percent favorability and 36 percent viewing her as unfavorable. They are tied among independents with 45 percent each, but West draws more Democrats than Frankel draws Republicans. West took 22 percent of the Democrats in the poll while Frankel won only 10 percent backing from Republicans.

The poll of 809 likely voters had a margin of error of +/- 3.5 percent. With redistricting coming up in 2012, the lines of the district may change dramatically -- but for now West has a solid lead.
