The Bureau of Labor Statistics released a discouraging May jobs report Friday, with 54,000 jobs added last month -- more than 100,000 fewer than expected.
The dismal news also meant that the national unemployment rate has ticked up to 9.1 percent, up 0.1 percent from April, and 0.3 percent from March. Florida's unemployment rate remains higher than the national average, and remains at 10.8 percent for April, the latest month for which state-specific statistics are available. Florida's rate, however, appears headed in the opposite direction, and has declined 1.1 percent since January.
