National Unemployment Rate Ticks Down to 5.9 Percent

The U.S. unemployment rate hit its lowest in six years during the month of September, according to new numbers released Friday by the U.S.Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The unemployment rate has dropped from 6.6 percent since the beginning of the year.

Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 248,000 in September. Other industries saw growth as well, including health care, retail trade and business services.
