National Pundits Pile on Kendrick Meek's Bid for U.S. Senate

U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek is going to have to step it up if he wants to get back into the U.S. Senate race. Besides facing a serious challenge from billionaire investor Jeff Greene for the Democratic nomination, Meek now must contend with increasing speculation from the national media that his campaign is floundering badly.

On Monday, Evan McMorris-Santoto over at TPMsaid that Meek was in serious trouble.

Gov. Charlie Crist is becoming the de facto Democratic nominee in the Florida Senate race, and there's evidence that Democratic donors are starting to line up behind him," he wrote. "That's not good news for the party's actual choice in the race, Rep. Kendrick Meek."

Elyse Siegel weighed in on Meek at the Huffington Post on Tuesday, questioning if national Democrats really intend to stand by the Florida congressman.

While there are less than two months to go until the Democratic primary, Meek has time to turn things around, but national pundits taking shots at his campaign and its chances are not helping him. Siegel quotes Randy Schultz at the Palm Beach Post saying that Meek has never had to fight for anything politically -- his mother set the stage for his time in the Legislature and in Congress. He is in for a fight now, not just to win the Democratic nomination but also to be relevant in this Senate race.
