NASA Planning Atlantis Display at Kennedy as Endeavour Departs

After two days of weather delays, Floridians had their last chance to watch a space shuttle depart from its shores at 7:22 a.m. Wednesday morning.

However, it wont be their last chance to see one of the nations once-proud but retired shuttle fleet in the Sunshine State.

Endeavour, atop the modified Boeing 747 known as the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft, departed Wednesday for the start of a two-day cross-country trip to Los Angeles, for display at the California Science Center.

Despite cloudy conditions along the coast, the SCA took a low level flyover of the Space Coast before turning inland for a flyover of Orlando International Airport and Disneyworld before heading to a scheduled stop in Houston.

The next shuttle to be rolled out for public view will be Atlantis, which will be showcased in an exhibit at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.

Atlantis is scheduled to be moved from the Kennedy Vehicle Assembly to the Visitors Complex on Nov. 2.

Shuttle Discovery has been moved to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, while shuttle Enterprise is at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in New York City.
