Nan Rich Stumbles in Fundraising as She Burns Through Cash
In the second quarter of 2013, former Florida Senate Democratic Leader Nan Rich got more publicity for her gubernatorial bid than she had since entering the race in April 2012. Rich highlighted her liberal stances and even was the subject of a campaign from the Republican Party of Florida to get her to speak at the Democrats Jefferson-Jackson Day dinner last month.
But Rich did not do well in the second quarter when it came to raising cash though she did bring in more in-kind donations. From April 1 until June 30, she raised more than $39,200 and relied on more than $31,800 through in-kind donations. Rich is starting to burn up her cash. She spent more than $75,000 in the second quarter of 2013.
So far, Rich has raised more than $160,350 in cash, relied on more than $34,800 through in-kind donations and spent more than $101,100 -- leaving her with around $59,000 in the bank. RIch is the only major candidate to file in the race so far -- but, after 14 months, she has yet to prove she is more than a minor player in this race.
