NAACP: Tea Party Movement Likes the American Revolution and the Constitution Too Much

The NAACP released a report on Wednesday trying to connect the tea party movement to nationalism and even to racist organizations.

You know, the tea party movement that elevated Marco Rubio's bid for the U.S. Senate; themovement to which possible presidential candidate Herman Cain speaks on an almost weekly basis.

According to the report, all the talk about small government and the national debt is really all about race. The report even calls out the tea party as nationalists for venerating the American Revolutionary generation and liking the Pledge of Allegiance and the Constitution.

The Revolutionary War-era costumes, the yellow Dont tread on me Gadsden flags from the same era, the earnest recitals of the Pledge of Allegiance, the overstated veneration of the Constitution, and the defense of American exceptionalism in a world turned toward transnational economies and global institutions: all are signs of the over-arching nationalism that helps define the tea party movement, states the report. It is a form of American nationalism, however, that does not include all Americans, and separates itself from those it regards as insufficiently real Americans.

The report also takes aim at Americans who have questions about where President Barack Obama was born.

It is the notion that President Barack Obama is not a real, natural-born American, that he is some other kind of person, that abounds in tea party ranks and draws this movement into a pit of no return, states the report.

Connections to racist organizations? The only connections this report shows are the ties between the NAACP and the Democratic Party.
