Move Over, Andrew Jackson: Harriet Tubman to Be New Face of $20 Bill
Harriet Tubman will replace President Andrew Jackson as the face of the $20.
Treasury Secretary Jack Lew will announce plans to keep Alexander Hamilton as the face of the $10 bill and replace Andrew Jackson on the $20 on Wednesday, according to POLITICO.
Tubman, an historic figure in the work to defeat slavery in the U.S., will become the face of the $20 bill. Hamilton won't go away entirely -- he will likely remain on the $20, but instead will be put on the back.
Other planned changes will include putting leaders of the women's rights movement on the back of the $10 bill and incorporating civil rights leaders into the $5 bill.
Last summer, Lew said he was thinking of replacing Hamilton on the $10 bill with a woman, but many suggested Lew instead take Jackson off the $20 bill due to his involvement in pushing Native Americans off their land.
