Move Fast to Pick Up $99 HP TouchPad
The HP TouchPad is dead, apparently,48 days after the device went on sale. In spite of the huge potential such reviewers as PCMag.com saw in the TouchPad, obviously HP didn't. It announced that in the fourth quarter of this year, the company will cease producing it.
Hence, the gigantic fire sale going on right now.
If you like this particular HP webOS device, you can pick one of the TouchPads already distributed to outlets like Best Buy, Staples and even Amazon for about $99. In a memo sent out to HP affiliates Friday, the company announced that the price of the TouchPad tablet will be reduced by 70 to 75 percent. That makes the 16GB device $99 and the 32GB device $149. No word on the 64GB model.
But here's the problem, according to PCMag.com: The announcement means there likely won't be future software updates or support from HP. "The developer community is likely to stay far away from the TouchPad and your device isn't likely to stay a player in the tablet industry for very long."
If you're a low-techie, this thing is dirt cheap and maybe you'll want to go for it. If you're into the latest gear, be advised.
