Modern Art 'Honest Abe' Backs Scott Fortune

Waiting in the mail today was a postcard inviting me to an event hosted by Scott Fortune, an attorney who is challenging U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown in the Democratic primary, at the Jacksonville Museum of Contemporary Art.

Now, I'm not a fan of mixing modern art with politics and my least favorite part of Kykuit up in Westchester County, New York was touring the modern art collection that Nelson Rockefeller stashed in his basement. But the jazzed-up picture of Abraham Lincoln wearing a Fortune button is one of the more unforgettable images of an already memorable election cycle.

Fortune will be debuting a provocative documentary film disclosing the shameful segregation within Floridas Third Congressional District. A vocal supporter of the FairDistricts measures, Fortune has hammered Brown for supporting the current redistricting system.

I would say I hope Fortune holds future events at the Cummer Museum over in Jacksonville, but that could mean a realistic portrait of a 19th Century politician and recent Sunshine State News readers can attest how ugly our statesmen could be back then.
