Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich Finish 1-2 in Palm Beach County Straw Poll
Mitt Romney edged Newt Gingrich in a straw poll of Palm Beach County Republicans on Wednesday night.
Romney garnered 73 votes, 41 percent, beating Gingrich's 61 votes (34 percent).
Trailing far behind were Ron Paul, 8 percent; Rick Perry, 6 percent; Rick Santorum, 5 percent; and Michele Bachmann, 4 percent.
"Right now, it looks like a two-man race," said County Chairman Sid Dinerstein.
Paul easily won a Pasco County straw poll conducted the night before, but that poll allowed participants from outside the county, and Paul supporters turned out in force.
Dinerstein said the Palm Beach ballot was restricted to members of that county's Republican Executive Committee.
"We did not tell people about (the) poll until the window had closed on joining the REC. They didn't know about the poll, so this was a clean vote," Dinerstein said.
