Mitt Romney Backs Connie Mack But Ignores Florida in Latest PAC Contributions

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008 and seems near certain to do so again in 2012, announced on Wednesday that his leadership PAC, Free and Strong America, contributed almost $130,000 to Republicans in the U.S. House and Senate in the opening weeks of 2011.

We need to show our Republican friends that we appreciate their efforts to curb wasteful spending, lower taxes and bring down our staggering $14 trillion debt, said Romney.Regaining majority control of the House of Representatives sent a powerful message that we will no longer tolerate business-as-usual on Capitol Hill, but it was just the first step.We need to show our support for a Republican agenda that seeks to create jobs, and reform, restructure and reduce the size of government.

While Romney placed second in the Republican primary in Florida in 2008, of the more than 50 GOP leaders in Washington that he is backing, only one came from the Sunshine State -- U.S. Rep. Connie Mack, who may be taking on Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson come 2012. Mack got $2,000 from Free and Strong America.
