Mike Huckabee Vows to 'Kill Common Core'
Trying to catch businessman Donald Trump in the Republican presidential primaries, former Gov. Mike Huckabee took aim at Common Core standards over the weekend.
After his bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008, Huckabee moved to the Florida Panhandle.
“Across the country, the federal government has hijacked our education system by ramming Common Core down the throats of local governments,” Huckabee insisted at the end of last week. “Washington bureaucrats are holding classrooms and kids hostage and threatening to punish those who reject their one-sized-fits-all big government mandates.
“This radical, recklessness must end! We must shift power back to state and local governments. In my ten years as governor, I fought for parents, students and local control,” Huckabee continued.
“As president I will kill Common Core and abolish the Department of Education,” Huckabee vowed. “Let's be clear: Washington bureaucrats and big-government central planners are out-of-control. Education decisions are best made by the most local government — Moms and Dads.”
Huckabee has been shifting on the issue. In 2013, he hurged Oklahoma to keep Common Core.
