Mike Haridopolos Expects Special Session on Redistricting
Senate President Mike Haridopolos, R-Merritt Island, anticipates legislators will need to come back after the regular session to redraw some of the proposed redistricted legislative and congressional boundary lines.
Haridopolos told reporters Monday he wouldnt be surprised if the Supreme Court, based upon questions posed by some of the justices during a Feb. 29 hearing, rules out parts of the House and Senate maps.
Maybe a majority of them might say adjust this or that, whether it be on the House or Senate maps. And we have to wait to see how the Justice Department deals with the congressional maps, Haridopolos said.
Historically, the courts have not thrown out the whole map, but sections of the map, and I wouldnt be surprised -- and thats why Im anticipating it.
The Supreme Court and U.S. Justice Department are expected to rule by the end of the week on the maps.
