Mike Fasano Looks to Cut State Contributions to Elected Officials' Retirement Funds

Sen. Mike Fasano, R-New Port Richey, announced on Tuesday that he was filing a bill to reduce state contributions from the retirement accounts of elected officials to 2 percent. Currently, the officials get between 3 and 3.33 percent.

In these perilous economic times where state agencies are making great cuts just to keep operational, this legislation will require elected officials to absorb some of those cuts as well, said Fasano in a statement on Tuesday. Public service should not be about the amount of benefits one receives, it should be about the sacrifices one makes for the greater good. I am asking my colleagues all across the three branches of government to make that sacrifice and accept a smaller retirement benefit.
