Michele Bachmann Renews Attack on 'Crony Capitalism' in Speech to Family Research Council
Sharpening her attack on "crony capitalism," GOP presidential candidate Michele Bachmann said she would "veto any new law which seeks to impose unconstitutional regulation under the commerce clause."
"They're not even good at hiding it anymore," the Minnesota congresswoman said of pork-barreling lawmakers and the Obama administration.
Citing $550 million of taxpayer dollars lost in the Solyndra boondoggle, Bachmann reiterated her pledge to shut down five Cabinet level departments and return money and authority to the states.
Speaking to the Family Research Council on Monday, Bachmann said that as president, "I will ensure passage of the Parental Rights Amendment" and vowed to reverse the Obama administration's passive-aggressive behavior toward the Defense of Marriage Act.
In a jab at Mitt Romney and other centrist Republican rivals, she declared, "I am 100 percent pro-life. And you will not find a YouTube clip of me saying otherwise."
And blending her economic and socially conservative message, the congresswoman stated:
"We can't preserve liberty if [the voters'] choice is a frugal socialist or an out-of-control socialist."
She called immigration a "black and white issue," legally speaking. "We shouldn't praise people for breaking the law," she said.
The first GOP candidate to sign a pledge to build a fence on the southern border, Bachmann said, "This is not anti-Hispanic or anti-Latino. There are profound national security interests. Illegal immigration costs this country $113 billion every year, and $32 billion of this cost is borne by state and local governments.
"The modern welfare state has hurt us in many ways. I will make sure illegal immigrants do not have access to taxpayer-paid benefits."
And addressing growing concern over the prospect of local governments recognizing Islam's Sharia Law, Bachmann said, "There is only one law in the United States -- the Constitution. Sharia law cannot be considered equal treatment under the law."
