Miami's Marlins Stadium Parking Tax Cut Strikes Out in House

The House, with members noting a staff analysis that called the deal potentially unconstitutional, rejected an amendment that would have provided a tax cut for the Miami Marlins' 5,700-space stadium parking garage complex.
Representatives voted 73-42 against the amendment to HB 7097 that would have had the state cover a part of the stadium deal that left the city on the hook for up to $2 million in property taxes.
The bill, sponsored by Rep. Jose Diaz, R-Miami, would exempt the city of Miami from paying the property taxes on the decks.
The city paid for the construction of the four parking decks at the new stadium and is leasing the parking to the Marlins at $10 per space.
