Miami-Dade Adding WiFi to School Buses, Pushing STEM Programs in Schools
When school starts in Miami-Dade County Aug. 24, students can expect a whole lot of changes.
Earlier this week, the Miami-Dade Public School Board members and Superintendent Alberto Carvalho announced 53 new programs for students beginning in the 2015-2016 school years.
The additions bring the total number or programs offered by the district to over 500. The list of programs includes adding 16 magnet programs to 12 schools as well as 37 choice programs in 30 schools.
Carvalho called the news "Christmas in July" and "Hanukkuh in August."
Among the new programs will be the expansion of STEM programs like robotics and coding. Adding computers is also a priority under the new programs.
Technology will be expanded in other aspects, as well, including adding WiFi onto school buses.
Some new programs will include health clinics, legal studies and engineering studies at local middle schools.
