Meek Open to Debates With Greene--But Not Every 2 Weeks
Billionaire Jeff Greene challenged U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek, his chief rival for the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination, to hold a series of bi-weekly debates throughout the summer.
Meek said he was open to debates but not as many as Greene was calling for.
"I am looking forward to the opportunity to discuss the critical issues facing Floridians with Jeff Greene and am more than happy to debate him, said Meek. However, I am focused on spending my time speaking with everyday Floridians about how we can create a better Florida and build up what others have torn down.
Abe Dyk, Meeks campaign manager, lashed out at Greene.
"Floridians deserve to know the truth, said Dyk. Jeff Greene is a billionaire who made his money on Wall Street by betting against middle class homeowners, hoping that their mortgages would collapse. He pioneered a risky investment product called credit default swaps that weakened the financial and real estate markets and helped fuel the meltdown that wrecked our economy.
Floridians will see Jeff Greene for what he is -- someone who chose to get ahead by endangering the livelihoods of middle class Florida families," added Dyk.
