Medical Marijuana to Get Supreme Court Review
The petition to legalize medical marijuana in Florida reached a major milestone Monday, receiving enough validated petitions to trigger a Florida Supreme Court review of the petition to allow medical pot in the Sunshine State.
An email from United For Care, the John Morgan-led group, said the petition had gathered over 73,000 signatures, more than enough to push the Florida Supreme Court to review the amendment language.
In 2014, a petition to allow medical marijuana was placed on the general ballot, but fell three points short of passing statewide.
Just because the Supreme Court will review the amendment language doesn't necessarily mean medical marijuana will show back up on the ballot in 2016 -- the group still needs over 600,000 validated petitions to get the measure placed back up for vote next year.
