McCollum Reaches $4.5 Million Settlement with Office Depot
Today, Attorney General Bill McCollum negotiated a settlement with Office Depot, Inc. for $4.5 million. The settlement came as a result of allegations against Office Depot that claim the company "overcharged governmental agencies for office supplies in violation of the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Practices Act," according to the attorney general's communications office press release.
Florida customers will receive the benefits of the refunds, along with governmental agencies.
The attorney general's Economic Crimes Division found that Office Depot "allegedly switched certain local governmental agencies and private non-profit organizations in Florida from one pricing plan to another without their full understanding or knowledge, potentially resulting in higher prices for those customers."
