Matt Gaetz Says 'Stand Your Ground' Hearing Will Be Delayed
The scheduled hearing on the controversial Stand Your Ground law in the Florida House is delayed because the only state representative who filed a bill on the issue will be out of town for the original scheduled hearing.
Item No. 1 is listed as No. 1, Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fort Walton Beach, said, because its the only project that Speaker Weatherford has given us and that is the application of Floridas Stand Your Ground law.
I was planning on having the Stand Your Ground hearing next month, Gaetz added, and Representative Alan Williams is apparently the only personwho sponsored a bill so far on the Stand Your Ground issue.Apparently, hes not going to be in town. So, we have to work around the schedule of Representative Williams.
Gaetz will be working with Williams to reschedule the hearings so Williams can actually attend. The Dream Defenders are expected to attend the hearings since Gaetz agreed to meet with them to discuss the law after their 31-day sit-in at Gov. Rick Scott's office, where they protested against the law. Gaetz has said that he does not, however, support changing the law.
