Marco Rubio in Washington
On Election Night, Marco Rubio said he knows Washington is a place that changes people in a way that "they forget why they ran for office." He told his supporters in a victory speech that night, "I ask for your prayers for me and my family, that we will not change."
Rubio's new life and the challenges he faces -- both the public and the private ones -- have begun.
National Public Radio reported late Sunday that Rubio is already in the nation's capital, preparing for his orientation to life as a United States senator.
It all begins for the Republican senator-elect at 8:30 a.m. Monday, when he is scheduled to meet with his fellow senator from Florida, Democrat Bill Nelson. That should be the most relaxing part of the day.
NPR reported that Sen. Mitch McConnell will meet with all new Republicans -- Rubio included -- at 10:30 a.m. Monday.
Orientation is likely to conclude Thursday.
