Marco Rubio Supports Mitch McConnell in Kentucky Senate Primary
Sen. Marco Rubio affirmed his support Sunday for GOP Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who is facing a tea party primary challenge in his home state of Kentucky.
Appearing on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace, Florida's Republican senator said, "I think [McConnell] is trying to lead our conference. It's a diverse conference with a lot of different opinions, and that's a tough job to begin with, and then of course he's got to represent his own state."
In his re-election bid, McConnell is fending off a challenge from tea party candidate Matt Bevin, a Louisville businessman, in the Kentucky Republican Senate primary.
Tea party groups were upset with the results of the government shutdown and debt-limit agreements. McConnell played a significant leadership role to reopen the government and ensure that the U.S. did not default. The Senate Conservative Fund announced Friday it will support Bevin.
