Marco Rubio Pitches Defunding Obama's Health Care Law
U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., continues to tour the state and call for the defunding of President Barack Obamas health care law. Rubio spoke in Pensacola on Wednesday and continued to throw jabs, insisting Washington can fund the government but defund the health care law.
What Im saying is that we should fund the government, Rubio said. We should pass a budget that funds the government but does not fund Obamacare. Thats what Ive been arguing. And the presidents the one thats threatening to shut down the government because he and his Democratic allies are saying that if we dont pass a budget that funds Obamacare, they wont approve it. Hence, shutting down the government. So I think the governments been funded without Obamacare before, it can be funded without Obamacare again.
On top of a broken tax code, on top of a regulatory system that discourages job creation, on top of a national debt that threatens our future and scares people from investing, the uncertainty of this law and these arbitrary delays in it as pieces of it are coming apart are just adding to the fact that many businesses are not adding workers, Rubio continued. Youre seeing that already. Look, weve got to get this economy growing again so that it can start creating middle-class jobs again. Its not going to do that as long as theres uncertainty hanging over it, and Obamacare just adds to it.
So thats why at this point, to me, its no longer the ideological argument, Rubio said in conclusion. As I said, I am clearly opposed to Obamacare as an unnecessary and, in my opinion, unconstitutional, expansion of the federal government. But right now what Im most focused on is the impact its having on real people: on workers, on the working class, who are going to lose their hours, their insurance and potentially their job because of the uncertainty that Obamacare is creating.
