Marco Rubio Offers Condolences for El Faro Tragedy

From his perch as chairman of the U.S. Senate Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries, and Coast Guard Subcommittee, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., offered prayers to the families impacted by the El Faro tragedy.

On Wednesday, the Coast Guard called off the search for survivors. The vessel was sunk during Hurricane Joaquin as it sailed from Jacksonville to Puerto Rico. All 33 of its crew were lost in the tragedy.

“I join the crew members’ families and loved ones in mourning this devastating loss. My thoughts and prayers are with them and those lost at sea,” Rubio said. “I want to thank the U.S. Coast Guard, Navy and Air Force for conducting an exhaustive search under difficult circumstances. As the National Transportation Safety Board’s investigation continues, ‎I’m hopeful we can learn more about what happened so we can avoid future tragedies.”
