“The newest images of Pluto captured by NASA’s New Horizons represent a historic achievement for U.S. space exploration,” Rubio said on Tuesday. “My hope is that many young people across this country and the world will see these images of Pluto and feel that American science, ingenuity and daring are alive and well.
“With this initial reconnaissance of the solar system, we have completed a more than 50-year-old goal,” Rubio added. “Space exploration is and has always been an important venture for our country. It opens the door for an unparalleled level of innovation, research and understanding. By investing in our nation’s brightest scientists and ambitious endeavors, we can accomplish ground-breaking space missions like this probe visit to Pluto.
“I am proud of NASA’s continued efforts to make these dreams a reality, and I am proud that once again Florida served as the spaceport that launched such a historic mission,” Rubio said in conclusion. “Young people across the world look to the agency and the emerging innovators in the commercial space industry for their dedication to discovery, and will be inspired by the insights these images provide. We should continue to set an example with space exploration for the future leaders of this country and countries around the world.”
