Marco Rubio Launches Video Calling for Balanced Budget Amendment

Former House Speaker Marco Rubio, the overwhelming favorite to be the Republican candidate in the U.S. Senate election, released the fourth in his series of web videos proposing ideas on how to reduce federal government spending. In the video released on Friday morning, Rubio called for the passage of a constitutional amendment requiring Congress to balance the budget.

Heres the deal: History teaches us that no matter whos in charge of government -- Republicans, Democrats, conservatives or liberals -- eventually, they will use it to grow government, said Rubio. And if you allow them to, they will borrow money to do it. In essence, every government whos allowed to spend more money than they take in, will do so. They do it because they dont want to make difficult decisions.

Thats why we need a constitutionally balanced budget, continued Rubio. That means an amendment to our Constitution that requires the government not to spend more money than it takes in.
