Marco Rubio Cheers Congress Opposing Obama on UNESCO Funding
From his perch on the U.S. Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, U.S. Sen Marco Rubio, R-Fla., praised both chambers of Congress for squashing President Barack Obama’s effort to fund the U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Pointing to UNESCO’s work with the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Rubio teamed up with U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk, R-Ill., to release a statement on the matter on Thursday.
“We thank Republican leaders in Congress for working with us to uphold longstanding U.S. laws that forbid funding to UNESCO, the U.N. organization whose anti-Israel member states granted membership to the non-state actor of ‘Palestine’ in 2011 and more recently tried to designate the Western Wall in Jerusalem as a Muslim holy site,” Rubio and Kirk said.
