Marco Rubio Can Win Over Conservatives With Abortion Bill

Fresh from getting the immigration reform bill through the Senate, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., shows no signs of leaving the national stage. While the immigration reform bill faces an uncertain fate in the House, Rubio agreed on Tuesday to sponsor a measure banning abortions after 20 weeks. A similar bill in Texas has been in national headlines in recent days as state Sen. Wendy Davis helped filibuster it, making her a star for Democrats. Conservatives in the House passed a similar bill to Rubios last month.

Rubio certainly needs to build bridges to conservatives after his leading role in the immigration reform debate. This bill should certainly help Rubio on that front -- no minor thing, especially as the senator from Florida continues to prepare to run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016. Fred Barnes over at the Weekly Standard has more on Rubios support of the abortion bill.
