Marco Rubio Backs More Sanctions on Iran

Back in the U.S. Senate now that he has ended his presidential bid, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., announced his support on Thursday for two bills adding sanctions to Iran.

“Iran's continued terrorist activities, illegal missile testing, and human rights abuses are a disastrous consequence of the Obama administration’s inept foreign policy,” Rubio said. “As Iran continues to walk all over the U.S. and our allies, we need to impose new sanctions and codify existing regulations regarding Iran’s access to the U.S. financial system.”

Rubio announced his support for the “Iran Ballistic Missile Sanctions Act of 2016” which imposes new sanctions on companies and individuals aiding that countries helping that nation develop missiles. Rubio is also backing the “Iran Terrorism and Human Rights Sanctions Act of 2016” which puts sanctions on Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Mahan Air.
