Marco Rubio and John Thrasher Praise Decision on Obamacare Suit

Republicans weighed in on Thursday afternoon on a federal judge allowing Attorney General Bill McCollums lawsuit against the federal government over new federal health-care laws backed by President Barack Obama to move forward.

Former House Speaker Marco Rubio, the Republican candidate in the U.S. Senate race, praised the decision.

Obamacare is a disastrous law that should be repealed and replaced, and I applaud todays ruling allowing Floridas legal challenge to move forward, said Rubio. The laws federal mandate is an unconstitutional and costly infringement on state sovereignty and individual freedom, and acts as a tax on individuals who dont purchase insurance. I commend Attorney General McCollum and other attorneys general around the nation for leading this effort, as well as attorney general candidates like Pam Bondi who have pledged to continue this important fight.

Rubio used the opportunity to attack his rivals in the race.

Charlie Crist has been all over the map on Obamacare, but one thing is clear he does not support repealing the law, said Rubio. Congressman Kendrick Meek enthusiastically championed Obamacare and fought alongside Nancy Pelosi to make this the law of the land. Time and time again, Congressman Meek has shown an unhealthy willingness to go along with an agenda that threatens to cripple our nation with bigger government paid for with borrowed money. Floridians simply cant afford to send Kendrick Meek to the Senate, where he will oppose repealing this health-care plan and continue being a reliable vote for the current direction that Washington is taking us.

Sen. John Thrasher of Jacksonville, the chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, also praised the decision.

I applaud today's common-sense decision to allow the worthy lawsuit against Obamacare to head to trial, said Thrasher. Floridians and Americans can't afford Washington's onerous health care mandates that mean more taxes, debt and hardship.

"It's sad that with near 12 percent unemployment, liberals like Dan Gelber still don't get it, added Thrasher. The facts are as clear as day: he wants to increase your taxes, force Washington's government takeover of health care on Florida, and doesnt care that it could cost Florida taxpayers over $1 billion to implement. Liberal and out-of-touch is not what our economy needs or what Florida deserves this November.
