Lori Parrish Backs Scott Galvin for Congress
Speculation continues that Broward County Property Appraiser Lori Parrish, a Democrat who has been prominent in South Florida politics for two and a half decades, will back Gov. Charlie Crists independent bid for the U.S. Senate if he vetoes a measure requiring mothers considering an abortion to have an ultrasound.
But while she has not revealed if she will back Crist, she has backed a candidate running for the congressional seat that U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek, the Democratic frontrunner to take on Crist and Republican Marco Rubio for the Senate, is vacating.
Parrish offered a strong endorsement for North Miami Councilman Scott Galvin, who is facing a crowded field of rivals for the Democratic nomination.
"Councilman Galvin has a strong commitment to education, a passion for public service and will be a real fighter for womens rights and equality for everyone," said Parrish.
Galvin responded: Her energy and attention to providing great public service are great examples to follow and are values I will take to Washington."
Parrishs backing will help Galvin. While most of the district is in Miami-Dade, almost 20 percent of the voters in the district are in Broward County.
