LeMieux Releases Personal Senate Documents to Palm Beach Atlantic

During a speech at the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches Monday, U.S. Sen. George LeMieux announced he will be releasing personal papers and effects to Palm Beach Atlantic University.

The documents, estimated to be in the thousands, consist of correspondence between LeMieux and other leaders and staff members in Washington over the last 16 months. These types of documents, like memos, policy briefings and letters, are considered public documents in Florida's government, but at the federal level they are considered personal and don't have to be released to the public.

"There will be a lot of documents there for scholars and students to review over time," LeMieux said, pointing out that over the last year and a half many important pieces of legislation -- President Barack Obama's health-care reform bill, financial reform, and the national deficit, for example -- have been discussed in these documents.

LeMieux says he chose PBA because of his own ties to South Florida, and the fact that it's a Christian-based school. He says PBA officials are making arrangements to have the documents available in their library.
