Legislative Lead Foot Awards: Lawmakers with a Need for Speed
Florida legislators duked out a bill to raise speed limits in Florida on Tuesday, and a new report released by the Scripps Florida Investigative Team found several lawmakers have a heavier foot than others.
The team pulled legislators' driving records and found several have racked up more than just a few driving violations over the years -- some have even racked up over 40 while driving around in the Sunshine State.
In the House, Rep. Darryl Rouson, D-St. Petersburg, took home first place for having the highest amount of driving infractions, receiving 43 over the entire time he's been driving. Rep. Dave Hood, R-Daytona Beach Shores, received the second-highest amount of violations, receiving 40 during his driving career. Rep. Richard Corcoran, R-Land O'Lakes, came in third with 33 violations.
Senators received fewer tickets than House members, but not by much.
According to the Scripps' report, Sen. Jeremy Ring, D-Margate, received the highest number of violations in the Senate with 24, while Sen. Maria Sachs, D-Delray Beach, received the second-highest amount with 18. Sen. Wilton Simpson, R-Trilby, and Senate President Don Gaetz received the third-highest number of violations with 16 each.
