Kiplinger's Disses Florida in Top 10 Cities List, Picks Big Government Towns Instead
Kiplingers has released the 10 top cities for the next decade and Floridas cities are conspicuously absent from that list. The likes of Jacksonville, Dunedin, Ave Maria and DeLand lost out to Des Moines, IA and Rochester, MN.
Rochester has a Mayo Clinic, cheers Kiplingers. Big deal, so does Jacksonville and we also have beaches, the Jaguars (for now) and better golf courses.
Small business is the new game in town, and everyone is playing, said the Kiplingers editors about West Hartford, CT. This is not news--I used to head out there when I was in college up in Hartford in the mid 90s and they had plenty of local shops and restaurants. When I was a kid, I would come up from Jacksonville to West Hartford where my grandfather lived and walk from his house to one of my favorite stores in the world to load up on comic books, Dungeons & Dragons materials and everything else a geeky little boy in the mid 1980s required.
We focused on places that specialize in out-of-the-box thinking, said the editors of Kiplingers.
No, they didnt. The editors boast that Topeka, KS is a nice place to live since 25% of the town are government workers. Topeka, Austin, Des Moines, Washington D.C., West Hartford.lots of government employees. Nice to see that support for the free market from a business magazine.
