Kendrick Meek Launches Countdown Clock for Jeff Greene to Release Financial Statements
The battle for the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination is heating up with a new story emerging every day on the spat between U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek and billionaire financier Jeff Greene. Monday's narrative focused on Greenes efforts in Liberty City -- traditionally a stronghold for the Meek familys political operations. Tuesday, Meek hopes to focus attention on Greenes finances.
The Meek campaign Web site is now hosting a countdown until July 23 when Greene needs to file his personal financial information with the federal government.
"More than two months after announcing his campaign, Floridians still haven't the slightest idea who Jeff Greene is, said Adam Sharon, Meeks communications director. Few know he is a billionaire who made his fortune wrecking the middle class, using what Warren Buffett called 'financial weapons of mass destruction.' And at every step, Jeff Greene has withheld any information about his checkered past, wealth and dangerous investments -- the very things Greene is using to win votes in his TV ads. Floridians deserve to know how Jeff Greene became a billionaire by betting against middle-class homeowners and wrecking the middle class."
Meek is not the only Florida Democrat using this tactic -- former Tallahassee Mayor Scott Maddox is running a clock on his campaign Web site, ticking off the days since Maddox asked his Republican rival to be Floridas next commissioner of agriculture and consumer services, U.S. Rep. Adam Putnam, to sign a pledge against offshore oil drilling.
