Kendrick Meek Blasts Republicans for Blocking Unemployment Extension
Moments after rival Jeff Greene blasted Republicans in the U.S. Senate for blocking extending unemployment benefits, U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek, also a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate, followed suit -- and took a shot at Greene.
"Yesterday, Republican leaders in the Senate blocked legislation that would have extended unemployment benefits for 119,200 Florida workers who have lost their jobs, said Meek. It's an absolute disgrace. Middle-class Florida families are struggling through these tough times, and Republican leaders in Washington just aren't listening. They'd rather take their cues from Big Banks, BP and Wall Street.
"Floridians need leaders who aren't afraid to tackle big issues -- Democrats who will fight for the middle class, not billionaires who profited off the misery of Florida families or politicians who will say and do anything to get elected, said Meek, firing a shot at Greene. My fight has always been to bring jobs and opportunities to the state and to turn Florida's economy around. In the Senate, I will continue to fight for middle-class families struggling in these tough times."
