Jon Huntsman Bashes Mitt Romney on China and Trade

On Monday, the team behind former Gov. Jon Huntsman of Utah attacked Republican presidential primary rival former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts for ideas he expressed at a debate on Saturday, which -- the Huntsman camp insisted -- would lead to a trade war with China. Huntsman served as ambassador to that nation under President Barack Obama.

"Mitt Romney has indicated that he would be willing to drive the U.S. further into recession by pandering on China for political advantage. Moreover, his proposed 'solution' is not possible and was widely panned by observers and international economic experts," said Tim Miller, a spokesman for Huntsman, in a statement on Monday. Jon Huntsman understands China. He is offering substantive solutions that will help our economy, not pleasant-sounding sound bites that in practice would hurt entrepreneurs and job creators. Voters can trust Jon Huntsman to be a problem-solver who is ready to deal with issues on day one."

The Huntsman team also released a video attacking Romney on Monday over the issue.
