John Mica: Close Consulates in Mexico to Stop Criminals Crossing the Border Illegally
On Wednesday, at a U.S. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing, U.S. Rep. John Mica, R-Fla., called for closing the American consulates in Mexico, noting the rising number of Mexican criminals crossing the border illegally.
“At a congressional hearing today, I highlighted testimony stating that over 100,000 illegal aliens, some 20 percent of the total apprehended at the US-Mexico border in 2014, were criminals," Mica noted after after the hearing. “Border agents represented at the hearing said that there need to be consequences for illegal entrants and I suggested we begin with the closure of our nine consulates in Mexico. They are costing us hundreds of millions of dollars and putting thousands of American employees at risk in a country where extreme violence and corruption continues to run rampant.”
