John McCain Backs Ozzie deFaria to Take on Debbie Wasserman Schultz
On Tuesday, U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., the Republican presidential candidate who lost out to Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election, announced that he was backing Ozzie deFaria to challenge U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., best known nationally for being the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee.
We need more people with Ozzie deFaria's business experience in the United States Congress," McCain said. As a business leader who helped create thousands of jobs, Ozzie knows how to get America's economic engine back on track. I am confident he will be a consistent conservative leader who will serve the American people with honor and integrity. It is imperative that we have highly qualified conservative candidates like Ozzie to challenge extreme liberals like Debbie Wasserman Schultz."
"I am truly honored and humbled to receive the support of Senator John McCain, deFaria said. He is an American hero who has always put our country first. His record fighting government waste and pork-barrel spending is one I hope to emulate in the United States Congress. I look forward to working with Senator McCain in the coming years."
While he may have the backing of the GOPs most recent presidential candidate, deFaria does not have an open shot at Wasserman Schultz as he faces a host of candidates in the Republican primary, including businesswoman Karen Harrington who challenged the congresswoman back in 2010.
