John Bolton Fires Away on Obama Foreign Policy

Former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton scorched the Obama teams record on foreign policy in an op-ed in the Guardian and forwarded by the American Enterprise Institute where he is now a senior fellow. While Bolton rails against WikiLeaks, his toughest barbs are for the president and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

His secretary of state does not comprehend that America is the subject of the attack, his department of defense is not interested in defending us, and the president himself seems utterly indifferent to the whole affair, wrote Bolton. All of this underscores the real problem. It is not WikiLeaks that ultimately imperils our national security, but the failing Obama administration, which ignores the nature and extent of threats we face, and which is too often unwilling to act to thwart them. While our economic difficulties have dominated the national debate for two years, national security will inevitably again come to the fore, as Americans see the full extent of the devastation left by Obama's policies. That shift cannot come too soon.

With Boltons name generating some buzz as a possible Republican presidential candidate in 2012, its fair to say he is showing a bit of his playbook if he decides to run: hammer Obama on international affairs. While Bolton is an underdog, itll be interesting to see if some of the leading presidential candidates who do not have strong foreign-policy backgrounds -- such as former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee -- start following suit.
