Jeff Miller Wants VA to Recover Employee Bonuses
U.S. Rep. Jeff Miller, R-Fla., the chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, unveiled a bill on Monday allowing the VA secretary to recoup bonuses handed out to VA employees, including managers at VA hospitals. In recent weeks, the VA has been under fire due to altered waiting lists at medical centers across the nation.
Apparently, VA officials arent sure whether the department has the authority to recoup bonus payments to its own employees, Miller said on Monday. This bill is intended to clear up this confusion. Ideally, VA employees and executives who earned bonuses under false pretenses should be subject to prosecution, but at a minimum their bonuses should be paid back in full. I urge my colleagues to support this bill, which would give the VA secretary another tool to instill some much-needed accountability throughout the department.
