Jeff Miller, Lois Frankel Team Up to Honor Disabled Veterans

Two members of the Florida delegation--Republican U.S. Rep. Jeff Miller and Democrat U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel--changed a bill to ensure Congress continues to recognize disabled veterans.

The House Veterans Committee, which Miller chairs, unanimously passed U.S. Rep. Ralph Abraham’s, R-Al., “American Heroes COLA Act of 2015” which ensures veterans disability compensation increased when Social Security benefits have cost of living adjustments.

Miller and Frankel included language to ensure Congress honors disabled veterans each year.
The U.S. Department of Veterans’ Affairs reports there are more than 3.6 million disabled veterans across the nation.

“We dedicated the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial almost one year ago, but for the brave men and women who have sacrificed so much for our country, the fight is not over,” Miller said. “The memorial is not an end point, but one reminder of the struggles these American veterans face every day.

“That is why it is so important to show the world that we will continue to honor the sacrifices they have made for our country and let our disabled veterans know they will never be forgotten,” Miller added.

“This recognition honors those brave men and women who were left disabled, ill or permanently injured while serving their country,” Frankel said. “Their sacrifice must never be forgotten.”
